Putting Solar in Its Place

Once home to the likes of Tom Thumb and President William Howard Taft, and the rumored spot of buried pirate treasure, the Thimble Islands have a colorful history. Today, though, their owner is lovingly restoring the islands, paying careful attention to their historic integrity.

Aegis was chosen as the contractor to bring light to these mansions, many of which date back to the 1800s. Not all homes were an easy fit, but the resulting work speaks to the solar panels’ durability. Seagulls routinely use them to break open oysters, and even two major hurricanes were no match for the securely placed panels.

A spot on the side of a rock was a perfect, unobtrusive fit for this island mansion's solar panels.
